Another New Way to Search…with URL

Awhile back I wrote an article on Emerging Earth talking about some missing options in the search realm for users. A new search site has hit the proverbial tubes and allows you to search Google, Yahoo! and MSN at the same time and give you the Top 10 results. The kicker, is that these results are also ranked by fellow users that you can choose to add to your network of trusted users. A great example of “social” search if there ever was one.
URL.com is a searching community.
We use a “bionic search engine” that lets us collaborate and to improve upon a foundation of search results gathered from the best web search engines, including Yahoo!, MSN, and Google.Url.com is a social experiment.
We are learning about new ways to collaborate using web search. How can our way of searching with many (many people, many engines) provide a better search experience? Can we make results more trustworthy, more relevant, more fun, or more rewarding? Can searching together make us more helpful people overall? We search with many

Who started URL.COM?

I think URL.com is a really great idea in search and is close to what I was thinking was missing in my post at Emerging Earth. The ability to simultaneously search the three major search sites (Google, Yahoo, and MSN) is a great shortcut. The only thing that’s still missing in this site of social search is some format of the users being identified and confirmed as credible in a variety of areas. If you spend enough time in the community, you will get to know the members you decide to help influence your search results by reading their feedback.
We’ve uncovered it for you, now go visit URL.com for yourself and see what it’s all about. Maybe I’ll start getting your comments on the sites I’m looking to visit next.

Jason - thanks for the kind words, and appreciate the insights. Your point about having ‘credible’ experts or other sort of collaborative filtering around users is definitely in the long-range vision.. this said, there’s also “wisdom of the crowd” theory…
