Skateboarder Does Amazing Roof Jump

I just saw this video shared on my Facebook. An amazing jump. At the very beginning of the video you can see him do the jump without the skateboard as well.

Whoa! Very impressive!

The jumper’s name is Jeremy Wray. I haven’t heard of him until today.

No Skeleton Break Dancer

Does this guy even have bones in his body? The fluidity of his movements is amazing! I couldn’t move like this if I were an amoeba!

Do you have great break dancing videos you’d like to share? Let us know in the comments.

Yahoo News Overwhelmingly Shallow

yahoo-news

First let me say a huge statement of condolences to the Travolta family on the loss of their 16-yr old son, Jett Travolta. I can’t even comprehend the loss that must be felt and grief that’s being experienced right now by John Travolta and his wife Kelly Preston.

The proliferation of news coverage about this is somewhat amazing to me. As you can see from the screen capture of the headline interface on my Yahoo! Mail this morning, 4 of the 6 headlines are about Jett’s death. Two from the Associated Press and two from E! Online. I know I can customize my news features but I think Yahoo would be better served by not duplicating stories in this view, but then branching out to other coverage of news stories after the reader clicks on the initial link they’re interested.

By doing this Yahoo would then present the reader with 6 options of interest and spread their probability of hitting something the reader was interested. In this case, if I’m not interested in reading about this story, I only have two other options for getting directed into Yahoo’s broader Entertainment news coverage.

It’s also depressing in this new year that out of the 6 headlines in entertainment news this morning that I see, all but one is about death, and the 6th is about the Grateful Dead.

The Best and Worst Blogs

Logo-PCWorld Awhile back I came across an article from PC World where they listed their Top 11 Lame Blogs.

From Kim Kardashian to Wal-mart, PC World doesn’t pull any punches on their critiques of these 11 blogs. Be sure and go read what they say about them so you can either be sure to surf away from them, or like a wreck on the interstate perhaps even look closer!

If you’re a blogger yourself you can take PC World’s comments as a way to improve your own blog’s performance and readership.

Logo-BlogWorldExpo Maybe you’d like to avoid the messes altogether though and just laser target your surfing habits to some really great blogs. If that’s the case, Blog World Expo has just released their list of finalists for the 2008 Weblog Awards.

The Weblog Awards finalists are grouped into categories like Best Individual Blogger, Best Humor Blog, Best Liberal Blog or Best Conservative Blog. They’ve even got best blogs listed for a variety of geographic areas and regions.

I’m sure there’s at least one, if not a dozen blogs that would capture your interest as a reader.

The Facebook Song

Just how powerful is that Facebook addiction of yours? Maybe taking a look at it from the eyes of these two guys.

This was one of the popular videos that was shared among some family members this holiday season. The video is from the Rhett & Link team of online comedy geniuses. They’ve got loads more videos on YouTube if you’re interested.

Uncovering Great Mobile Websites

Cell phones are becoming the computer and internet device of choice for thousands-and-thousands of users every day. The question though becomes just what kind of user-experience are these people getting with the browser that’s available on their phones?

Many Some websites develop a special mobile version of their site that’s usually accessible by entering their domain with variation like http://m.thedomain.com that lets the site know you’re interested in specially formatted version of the site for a mobile device.

There are some browsers that are developed specifically for using on a cell phone or smart phone, but I still find that the sites that are specifically formatted to display correctly for mobile devices themselves still provide the best user-experience.

But what are some nicely formatted websites that work well with small screen and mobile interface?

Here are some of my favorites:

All of these sites display very well for small screens and still maintain all the core functionality and usefulness of their fully-displayed versions.

What are some of your favorite mobile websites?

LifeFitter - Creating Affinity Based Friendships

lifefitter

I originally came across the LifeFitter website after clicking on a Facebook ad related to the Outpacker.com website.

After being thoroughly impressed with the design, thought and execution of the outpacker network, I discovered that LifeFitter is behind a network of 20 affinity based social networks, all geared around mostly outdoor, sports and recreation hobbies.

If you enjoy anything from kayaking, to paintball, to mountain climbing or biking you should uncover more of what they have to offer and expand your network with more sports enthusiasts that love the same thing you do.

If you’d like to see all the sites available you can also review them on my personal blog where I wrote up a post about this site’s use of social media.

Tight Parallel Parking - I Call It the Ace Ventura

I’m sure Mr. Russ Swift would prefer I not refer to this move as the "Ace Ventura", but it’s the first thing I think of from the first movie, "Like a glove!!!"

Mr. Swift pulled this amazing move to set a Guinness World Records by parking this mini in a space only 33cm longer than the car itself.

Save Cash with Money Saving Mom

money-saving-mom

Image: Screen capture from moneysavingmom.com

My brother just shared this link with me for the MoneySavingMom.com website. It’s your basic money saving site, but this mom has some tips I haven’t really read on some other sites covering similar topics.

As time marched on and the questions and requests and emails continued to pour in, MoneySavingMom.com was born. It’s been quite the adventure and has far exceeded my wildest imaginations thanks to the many wonderful readers who have spread the word. In less than a year, it has become one of the highest-trafficked personal finance blogs on the web. And it just keeps growing!

Could you feed your family of four on $35 per week? You should read this blog to learn how Crystal Paine does it.

If you’re really interested in saving and making money, you should checkout some of these other b5media blogs as well.

And there’s plenty of other great articles on the other blogs on the b5media lifestyles channel.

SEARS Grant a Wish Promotion through Bloggers

sears-grant-a-wish

I wrote a post recently about the HP Magic Giveaway on my Microsoft Weblog, SEARS has now gotten involved in the fun and started their own holiday wish promotion with some main stream bloggers that I know like Aaron Brazell and Jim Kukral.

The gist of the promotion is that SEARS has partnered with a handful of bloggers to come up with their own holiday gift packages. Then readers of their blogs can enter their contests to win a gift package of their own.

I think we can all agree the holidays are a time for giving, and we’ve just partnered-up with Sears and a group of bloggers to do just that. Similar to the recent Kmart campaign, we sent a group of bloggers on an exciting journey to spend $500 at their local Sears store…but not only to buy something but to "Grant A Wish."

Take advantage of the opportunity to win some great stuff this holiday season by visiting one of the blogs below and reading their posts about how they granted a wish to someone and have put together some great packages for you to win at the same time.

Chris Pirillo, Jim Kukral, Steve Spalding, Tamar Weinberg, Aaron Brazell, Liz Strauss, Ted Murphy, Joseph Jaffe

Let us know if you win!
